Adult Book Club

The Morning Book Discussion Program will hold a planning meeting to select the list of books to be discussed in 2017. The meeting will be held on Monday, January 9, at 10 a.m., at the library. The group has been meeting since May 2002. The selections have included fiction, non-fiction, biographies, autobiographies, classics, poetry, and books with a local flavor. The discussions usually meet the first Monday of the month and last an hour and a half to two hours. Between seven and eleven people participate in each discussion. Participants take turns bringing a light refreshment. No attendance requirement – attend discussions that are of interest. The library purchases a copy of each selection that may be checked out by library patrons when the book is not reserved for the discussion. Copies of the books are made possible through inter-library loan and are available at the library.

The program is suitable for adults and open to Mont Vernon residents at no charge. For bookkeeping purposes, non-residents wanting to borrow a book will need to join the library, annual fee is $15. New members are always welcome. Questions call the library at 673-7888.

Co-facilitators: Mary Rounds & Sally Hogan

Adult Poetry Night

Poetry Group will be meeting again on Monday, January 30th at 7:00pm. Facilitator Mary Katherine McNamara will lead the group and requests that participants bring a poem to share that you feel fits the theme “comfort Poems”.  For many of us, 2016 wasn’t the easiest year. Poetry, like music, can be so powerfully uplifting and edifying.  Warm up and enjoy the company of others at this winter session of Poetry Group.  Questions? Call 673-7888 for more information.
