The Library Trustees would like to thank the Mont Vernon community and the many volunteers, donors and town officials who have helped bring a new library for the town of Mont Vernon one step closer to reality.

Through Sophia Daland’s vision, the town of Mont Vernon has enjoyed a beautiful, well-maintained library for more than 100 years. Her Will not only allowed the construction of Mont Vernon’s first library building, but the Sophia G. Daland Trust has also served Mont Vernon by maintaining the building ever since. What the Daland Trust could not do was to make the library grow with the community. The tiny parcel of land that is home to the building made it impossible to even consider an addition when it became necessary.

The Library Trustees are very grateful to the entire Mont Vernon community for recognizing that a robust library is an important center of community connection and for supporting the new library project at last week’s 2024 Town Meeting. We are also grateful to the nearly 600 individuals and organizations who have contributed to the project, including more than 300 current and former residents, and to the many volunteers who have worked so hard over the last 6 years to make this project the most significant public/private partnership in our history. Thanks to the Mont Vernon Library Charitable Foundation’s Library Capital Campaign, the ongoing and significant support of the Sophia G. Daland Trust and a contribution from the Friends of the Daland Memorial Library, less than 1/3 of the project will be funded by local taxpayers.

The Library Trustees would like to thank the members of and advisors to the Library Building Committee, who have given freely of their time, talent and expertise to assure that the building will serve the community as intended for many years to come. We would also like to thank Dewing Schmid and Kearns for designing such a beautiful and functional space and to Turnstone Corporation of Milford, NH for their partnership over the last year in finalizing design choices in ways that add value without compromising function or longevity. Thank you all!

The Library Trustees and the Library Building Committee will be sharing the future project timeline as details are finalized.
